The County Association currently has 19 affiliated Clubs at Banwell, Bleadon, Camerton,
Congresbury, Farmborough, Fear (Keynsham), Florence Brown School (Knowle), Hillside (Bath),
Hutton, Kewstoke, Marshfleld, Midsomer Norton, Patchway, Pucklechurch, Saltford, Tickenham,
Timsbury, Whitchurch and Winterbourne. Many of these Clubs have members playing in League
teams or for the County as well as those playing purely socially.
Other Clubs in the area also enjoy playing but less competitively. These include Clubs at
Avonmouth, Filton, Fishponds, Henleaze, Hewish & Puxton, Keynsham, Kingswood, Knowle, Longwell
Green, Paulton, Pill, Portway, Severn Beach, Sodbury, Staple Hill, Stoke Gifford, West Backwell,
Weston-Super-Mare and Wrington.
Avon SMBA has fielded an Inter-County Premier team since September 1993, and with more members
interested, would like to add an 'A' team. We send representatives to the annual National
Championships. In 1999 our Fours Team reached the quarter finals, as did our under 18's singles
player in 2000. We also hold annual County Championships, including one for Under-18s, as well
as various Open Competitions throughout the year.
For further information about our clubs, or if you know a Club not mentioned here, please
contact the Avon Secretary. Most Clubs are looking for more players, (men and women aged between
8 and 80+) and will give help and tuition.
Avon County SMBC was formed in July 1993. Although Avon as a County was subsequently split
under new boundary changes into the 4 unitary areas of North Somerset, Bath & North East
Somerset, Bristol City, and South Gloucestershire, the name has been retained and continues
to cover these four areas. Avon is a separate SMBA from Somerset and from Gloucestershire.
